Schwarzkopf Professional continues to change lives through global Shaping Futures programme.
Schwarzkopf Professional has continued its commitment to education, empowerment and community through its global charity initiative, Shaping Futures, helping disadvantaged young adults build brighter futures through hairdressing.
Shaping Futures was founded with one clear purpose: to empower socially disadvantaged young adults by teaching them the craft of hairdressing and equipping them with the confidence and skills to create a career for themselves. Since then, the initiative has supported more than 3,500 young adults across 33 countries, using hairdressing as a vehicle for independence, opportunity and long-term change.
Earlier this year, the programme returned to the Philippines, where a new group of students completed an intensive six-week training course led by volunteer hairdressers from around the world. Combining foundational hair theory with practical salon skills including cutting, styling, consultation and customer care, the programme is designed to give participants the tools they need to pursue employment in the hair industry and build a more secure future.
Representing the UK on this year’s trip were Schwarzkopf Professional ambassadors Suzie McGill and Kevin Kahan, who joined the international volunteer team in the Philippines to share their expertise, mentor students and support the delivery of the training programme. Throughout the six weeks, students developed not only their technical hairdressing skills, but also their self-belief, confidence and sense of possibility for the future.
"I've trained so many people throughout my career, and sometimes you do think you've experienced everything. But volunteering with Shaping Futures was completely different. These young adults have overcome so much and knowing that the skills you're teaching them could genuinely change the direction of their lives gives the experience a whole new meaning. Every day, teaching these young people was an absolute joy – and they also taught me so much! I'll never forget the experience, and I have thought about it every day since I've returned home. I would love to have the opportunity to do it again and it’s been the most amazing charity to support.” - Kevin Kahan, UK Ambassador for Schwarzkopf Professional
Run in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages, Shaping Futures offers structured vocational education to young adults facing social and economic disadvantage, many of whom have limited access to formal training or employment opportunities. A key part of the programme’s impact lies in its lasting outcomes. Many Shaping Futures graduates go on to secure employment after completing the course, enabling them to support themselves and their families, while also helping to break cycles of poverty within their communities. Each volunteer involved in the programme self-funds their trip, donating not only their time and expertise, but also a personal commitment to making a meaningful difference.
By investing in the next generation and using the craft of hair to create real opportunity, the programme continues to change lives around the world – one future at a time.
