Rainbow Room International Uddingston is celebrating 20 years of delivering exceptional hairdressing, creative innovation and bespoke client experiences. Since opening in 2006, the salon has grown under the leadership of sisters Suzie McGill, Artistic Director, and Sam McFarlane, Salon Director, into a hub of talent, mentoring and award-winning service, staying true to the Rainbow Room philosophy of ‘Kaizen’, which means continual improvement.
When the salon first opened, its size, premium pricing, and focus on extended consultations, bespoke service, luxury products, and advanced colouring techniques were considered radical in the area. Two decades on, Rainbow Room International Uddingston has not only thrived but also established itself as a leader in Scottish hairdressing, producing top-class stylists who remain loyal to the brand.
With over 30 years in hairdressing, Suzie McGill has become one of the UK’s most admired and influential stylists and is also the Schwarzkopf UK Ambassador and International Artistic Director at Rainbow Room International. Suzie has toured internationally as an educator and session stylist, worked backstage at London Fashion Week, T In the Park, the Scottish BAFTAs, TRNSMT and the MOBOs, and guided the Rainbow Room International Art Team on its award-winning collections. She is a three-time British Hairdressing Awards Scottish Hairdresser of the Year winner and was inducted into the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame in 2018.
Sam McFarlane, one of Rainbow Room International’s most accomplished Salon Directors, has been a driving force behind the success of the Uddingston salon since it opened its doors. With over 33 years of experience within the industry, Sam has led the team to numerous achievements, with a focus on fostering professional growth and development for all staff. Known for her focus on client experience, Sam ensures every appointment delivers exceptional results, and her leadership has been central to establishing the salon’s welcoming, professional environment.
Reflecting on the milestone, Suzie said, "Celebrating 20 years in Uddingston is incredibly special. From the very beginning, our aim was to create a space where creativity, technical excellence, and client care go hand in hand. Seeing our team grow and watching our stylists develop their skills and confidence has been such a rewarding part of the journey."
Sam adds, "For me, the greatest highlight of these 20 years has been helping our team achieve their goals and making every client feel amazing. Suzie and I are incredibly proud of what we’ve built together, and of the talented, dedicated team that brings our vision to life every day."
Today, Rainbow Room International Uddingston remains a flagship salon for the group, combining luxury service with innovation, education, and technical expertise. With a team of eight stylists, the salon continues to nurture talent, inspire creativity, and deliver the high standards that have made it a cornerstone of Scottish hairdressing.
