From the salon floor to the STV Player, Behind the Mirror is breaking new ground in the hairdressing podcast industry.
Behind the Mirror, an exciting lifestyle podcast, is breaking the mould out of the hairdressing industry, with the show now being hosted on STV Player, a first in the UK industry.
Launched in 2025, Behind the Mirror features salon owners Lisa Carmichael, Laura Mason and Gary Corcoran and was created to bridge the gap between stylists and their clients. Together, they have successfully taken this podcast from the salon floor to the screen, with the show now available on STV Player.
This is believed to be the first hairdressing podcast in the world to make the transition from podcast to a television show available through a major broadcaster’s streaming platform.
When asked what sparked the idea to develop a podcast in this format, co-host Lisa said, “The podcast was created around a shared experience for salon owners: there can often be a huge gap between what hairdressers know, what clients are told, and what actually happens behind the salon chair. We wanted to change that.”
Through honest conversations, humour, industry insight and taking on the questions clients really want answered, Lisa, Laura and Gary have created a space where stylists and clients could finally be part of the same conversation.
What started as three hairdressers talking openly about the realities of hair, salons and the industry has now been developed into a show reaching an entirely new audience through STV Player.
Co-host Laura stated, “For us, it’s a huge moment, not only for our podcast, but potentially for the hairdressing industry itself. Hairdressing is part of millions of people’s everyday lives, yet the conversations that happen inside salons rarely make it onto mainstream television.”
Following the launch and having celebrated its first anniversary, the team are not slowing down, with guests already confirmed until mid-2027 throughout hair, beauty and fashion industries.
