Heading into damper, darker months, there’s one technique that should be on every curly client’s hit list.

Adam Cunningham from Zeba Hairdressing for L’Oreal Professionnel says the LOC technique is a great introduction to the curly girl craze, and an opportunity to talk products with your clients.

“The LOC technique is using a trio of products on the hair when it is soaking wet to lock in the curls, eliminate frizz and secure the style in place. The most common mistake I see hairdressers - and clients - make is applying product to hair that’s half dry. When working with curly hair it must be soaking wet. In the salon I apply the products at the basin, while I recommend clients apply them when they are in the shower. The hair must be soaking wet!”

So, what is the LOC technique? Adam uses three key products – L is for L’Oreal Professionnel Curl Expression Leave-in Conditioner; O is for L’Oreal Professionnel Metal Detox Oil and C is for L’Oreal Professionnel Curl Expression Curl Activating Jelly.

Adams three top tips when working with curls

  1. Always apply products on soaking wet hair either at the backwash or in the shower. When the hair is wet it makes it easier to distribute the product through the hair.
  2. Comb the products through while the hair is soaking wet.
  3. Scrunch your hair with a t-shirt or use a diffuser.
