In a post-pandemic world, it’s all about celebrating yourself; embracing your individuality, working with what you’ve got and not being afraid to stand out and be proud of your own authentic style.
Gone are the days of dictatorial trends and identikit looks. The traditional fashion cycle is a thing of the past, replaced with pick-and-mix, fast-paced microtrends, hyper-personalisation – and plenty of personality.
Individuality goes hand in hand with the digital generation’s desire for authenticity, purpose, and direction – after all, the world is moving fast, and it’s easy to get lost if you don’t have your own ideas and sense of identity to keep you grounded.
For ghd’s new season Trend Reveal, inspiration comes from the bespoke cuts, colours, and textures we’ve been seeing on the runways, social media, and streets. Working with the individual and adding an updated touch of the most interesting micro-trends creates a fun, fresh and diverse series of looks – and ultimately references the work created in salons every day; inspired by the client and given a twist through the stylist’s knowledge of not just what’s trending, but how it can be made relevant to the individual.
The Spring/Summer 2022 Trend Reveal comprises of eight model looks, all built on key techniques, silhouettes, and finishes that reflect the season’s microtrends and maximise the potential of ghd tools. They’re the building blocks of the season, ready and waiting for you to reinterpret for your clients.
The Looks
Contour Couture
- Key tool: ghd helios
Expanded natural textures create a new take on the high-top silhouette, with width and volume referencing the stretched looks at Balmain and Bottega Veneta. Made for personalisation, these exaggerated shapes can be amped up or down to work for the individual.
Textured Tresses
- Key tool: ghd platinum+
The woke-up-like-this wave is an eternal vibe and is the ultimate in effortless cool. Lived-in texture is a fashion week favourite, exemplified this season at the Victoria Beckham show, styled by Cyndia Harvey for ghd. “The hair looks this season was inspired by individuality and uniqueness,” Cyndia explained. “I like the idea of an array of different styles and structures with effortless shaping; hair that looks like it’s been slept in a bit, with a bend in it as well.”
Vixen Volume
- Key tool: ghd helios
Big hair just got a modern makeover. Imagine the volume of an 80’s power blow-dry with an effortlessly undone feel and you’re there. Our very own Zoё Irwin – dubbed Queen of the Blow-Dry by Vogue – reinvents supersize hair with a soft touch finish; this is luxe hair at its freshest.
Perfectly Undone Waves
- Key tool: ghd platinum+
Grunge gets a glow-up with this artfully crafted, bevelled texture. Combining elongated, luxe waves with a more undone 90s feel, this technique is inspired by the laidback movement at McQueen and Etro. Think teen angst hair with a polished edge, irregular, but elegant.
Silk Box Braids
- Key tool: ghd glide to prep
Primed for personalisation, this look is all about creating bespoke braids. Dressed up with silk, beads, flowers, patterned fabrics and more, it’s all about representing your style through accessories. As seen most notably at Moschino and Thom Browne, where individual styles were key.
Supermodel Slickback
- Key tool: ghd helios and diffuser
Pool party hair never looked so good. Inspired by the silhouette of slicked back 90s supermodel style and given a lacquered, wet-look feel, this is ultra-sexy hair at its most modern – inspired by Emilia Wickstead, Balmain, Lanvin and Richard Quinn.
Turned Up
- Key tool: ghd unplugged to detail
Giving a classic 1940s silhouette a 2000s twist, this look adds a youthful freshness and effortless glam update to any texture. Fendi spearheaded this shape with strong, sleek versions, while Yunan Wang showed softer examples. Add kitsch accessories for true Gen Z appeal.
Luxe Liquid Waves
- Key tool: ghd helios
Inspired by that Megan Fox red carpet moment – ultra wet-look, uber-long, rippling waves – this style makes texture super sexy and totally modern. On the catwalks, hair at Simone Rocha was transformed into an otherworldly material through layered on lacquer-look product, while Supriya Lele showed a more wearable version of this all-encompassing trend.
