Which is the best haircare routine for your hair type? Read on to find out more…
We caught up with the team at Always on Show Hair Studio in Jumeirah, Dubai for their haircare routine advice for the three common hair types.
Fine Hair
- Use a volumizing shampoo: lightweight, sulphate-free formulas help lift the roots without weighing the hair down.
- Go light on conditioner: apply a small amount of conditioner only to the mid-lengths and ends to prevent oil build up at the roots. Choose weightless hydration formulas with ingredients like aloe vera or silk proteins.
- Avoid heavy oils and creams: thick, rich products can make fine hair look limp. Instead, use a lightweight leave-in spray or a volumizing mousse to enhance body and movement without build up.
Curly Hair
- Cleanse with a sulphate-free shampoo: use a gentle, hydrating shampoo to avoid stripping natural oils. If hair feels dry, try co-washing (using conditioner instead of shampoo).
- Scalp massage: stimulate the scalp with fingertips (not nails) to promote circulation and remove build up.
- Deep conditioning (once a week): use a rich hair mask or deep conditioner to keep curls hydrated. Leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle and reduce frizz.
- Leave in conditioner: hydrates and preps curls. Use a curl cream or gel to enhance definition and hold curls in place. Use a scrunching motion to encourage curl formation.
- Air dry: best for reducing frizz and maintaining moisture. If using a diffuser, set it to low speed and medium heat to enhance curl shape.
Coloured Hair
- Protect and cleanse: use a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner designed for colour-treated hair to prevent fading and dryness. Wash with lukewarm water to retain moisture.
- Hydrate and strengthen: apply a deep conditioning mask or bond-repair treatment once a week to restore strength and shine.
- Shield and maintain: use heat protection before styling, limit heat exposure, and apply a UV protective leave-in spray to prevent colour fading.
