Brian Leo McCallum, owner of ROAR Hair & Beauty, talks about the benefits of team retention…
Retaining staff is beneficial to any business, as it reduces time needed for recruitment, and retaining the same staff members builds meaningful team relationships. Owner of ROAR Hair & Beauty, Brian Leo McCallum has spoken on the many benefits of staff retention and gives his advice on how to keep team members feeling appreciated.
Having a longstanding, loyal team is what we all dream of. It’s something I put a lot of love into and try my best to maintain. There are some good initiatives you can introduce to make sure team members feel valued. For example, we offer a flexible working environment since we understand that personal circumstances may require staff to work at certain times suitable for them and their personal situation. Since covid, everything has changed, and as a business we understand that flexibility is vital for all.
We also offer exceptional opportunities for education, so our team members feel they can really grow and develop their skills in a supportive environment. We offer internal and external education and clear career paths for everyone, completely bespoke for them and their goals. Being in Scotland, we want our team to be known throughout the wider industry, not just in Glasgow.
We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming, inclusive environment within our salons. We call our team a pride, embracing people of all different backgrounds and ensuring they feel that they are a valued member. The longer our staff members stay with us, the more time we have to build solid relationships amongst our team and create a close working dynamic. We want our team to feel like an extended family. As time goes on, team members will embrace the values and procedures that we uphold in the salon.
Team retention not only affects the relationships amongst team members but also between staff and clients. Those who visit our salons are putting their trust in our stylists to give them a service that meets their expectations. When they get used to seeing the same familiar faces, this will make them feel comfortable and look forward to their visit and these relationships will develop over time.
Overall, investing in your staff through providing opportunities for education and flexible working patterns will help them to feel that they are an important member of the team. This will ultimately help to build a strong team and develop positive relationships within the salon.
