Aveda X New York Fashion Week

Share

Aveda was busy at New York Fashion Week recently, styling up a storm at some of the biggest runway shows. You can get the biggest looks by Aveda right here…

ANONLYCHILD

Aveda Guest Artist Jon Reyman created unique hair looks for the AnOnlyChild SS23 runway show: each one-of-a-kind look celebrated the model’s individuality while creating something unexpected and border lining on fantasy. The execution was an imperfect yet natural look that feels both modern and relevant. The collection titled Chapter 1: It’s Getting Late, is a homage to designer Maxwell Osbourne’s upbringing as an only child and West Indian heritage.

“We wanted to show hair that hasn’t been done exactly, something with a twist,” Jon said. “I love how each model’s hair looks so unique to themselves; we worked with the hair they showed up with. It was all about playing up their personalities through hair.”

Knotless braids, enhanced natural texture, blunt side parts, and a sleek bob all walked the runway as the importance of individuality shown through. No two looks were the same and all were styled in unexpected ways.

To get this sleek straight look, Jon prepped the hair with Aveda’s volumizing tonic and smooth infusion perfectly sleek. Then the hair was blown dry with a wide tooth comb attachment before being flat ironed. The look was finished off with Aveda’s light elements texturizing creme on the hairline, parting, and ends.

To create this braided look, Jon used Aveda men pure-formance pomade and sectioned hair into boxes in a brick lay pattern. Then he added in knotless braids to give it length. Finally, to seal the ends he used a steamer and dipped the hair in hot water.

LOVESHACKFANCY

Aveda Guest Artist Jon Reyman of Spoke & Weal salons created an ethereal, but modern hair look for the LoveShackFancy SS23 presentation. Natural curls and wavy hair, some adorned with butterfly hair comb accessories, completed the look in the fantastical presentation setting, a decadent pink floral garden party.

“I wanted to create something modern and beautiful, but also play into the whole LoveShackFancy theme, so I went for a natural look with a whimsical fairy like feel.” Jon said. “I added a little curl or wave to some of the models, and the models with coils and textured hair, I left natural and brushed out.”

To get this wavy style, he first smoothed out the hair with pure abundance style prep and then used a curling iron to create a little bend, topping it off with control force firm hair spray. It was then brushed upside down to mess it up a little.

For textured hair he used Nutriplenish styling treatment foam and Nutriplenish curl gelée to create a soft curl and add shine. He then used the control force firm hair spray to lock it in also spraying the hair upside down to create a soft fluffiness in both the front and back.

PUMA

Aveda Global Artistic Director, Texture, Renée Gadar and guest Artist Jon Reyman of Spoke & Weal salons created dynamic modern hairstyles for the Puma SS23 Futrograde runway show. Featuring fashion, music and sports, the hair looks for the show spanned three different themes: Quiet Noise, Bodega and Futro.

Quiet Noise, a disturbed, sleek but sophisticated look, opened the show.

To achieve the Quiet Noise look, Jon parted out a section of hair for the fringe and stretched it by pressing it with a flat iron making it as straight as possible. He then used phomollient styling foam, nutriplenish styling treatment foam and nutriplenish multi-use hair oil to give it a really sleek look and wrapped the rest up into a tight bun.

The next portion of the show, Bodega, incorporated braids, bantu knots and colorful accessories to give off a trendy street wear vibe.

“My favorite theme to work on during the show was the Bodega portion,” said Renée. “It’s hood and glam all at the same time with lots of hair accessories; it’s just really fun, creative and colorful.”

To achieve this look on Puma Ambassador Abby Steiner, Renée first prepped the hair with volumizing tonic and brilliant retexturing gel to seal the hair down. She parted the hair straight down the center, and in the front sectioned out two boxes to create flat box braids to the scalp. In the back she ran the part from the forehead all the way down the back. With the hair split down the back she then braided two, three strand braids at the nape. Lastly, she added colorful flower clips and sealed it with control force firm hair spray.

The final Futro section had a sleek, wet feel with lots of braids to match the futuristic styles showcased on the runway.

S BY SERENA WILLIAMS

For the S by Serena Williams SS23 presentation, Aveda Guest Artist Jon Reyman of Spoke & Weal salons created a sleek ponytail look, while also enhancing naturally short textured hair.

He first used volumizing tonic to create the part and slick the top. The hair was then blow dried and pulled into a tight, clean ponytail. To ensure the top and sides had an ultra-sleek effect he used control force firm hair spray. For models with textured hair, he started off with the nutriplenish curl gelée to nourish and add shine before adding water and blowing out. The look was then locked in using control force firm hair spray.

The presentation was held on the rooftop of Spring Studios with a tennis court set and the clean looks paid homage to the designer’s legendary tennis status.

VERONICA BEARD

Aveda Guest Artist Jon Reyman of Spoke & Weal salons created a chic natural and wavy look for the Veronica Beard SS23 runway show: a seemingly effortless beautiful appearance to complement the bold designs of the collection.

“I wanted to create something easy and natural looking, a lived-in wave.” Jon said. “It’s for the girl who can wake up, roll out of bed and still look pulled together in that cool, but imperfect way.”

To achieve the look, he first used volumizing tonic and pure abundance style-prep, blow drying it in and blast drying it. He then added an s-wave pattern into the hair using a flat iron, going back and forth waving the hair in different directions to get that lived-in look. He then let it set for a minute using control force firm hair spray and finally at the very end used a wide tooth comb to rake through it. For models with textured hair, he first rehydrated all the hair with water and then layered in nutriplenish leave-in conditioner, followed by nutriplenish daily moisturizing treatment and finishing off with nutriplenish curl gelée. The hair was then diffused dry with the model’s heads upside down for added volume.
