Throughout the summer, ASP Ambassadors are sharing their must have summer looks to inspire clients to colour match the season’s vibe.
In-house Balayage Specialist and ASP Colour Rebel, Terri Nadin shares her summer look…
What inspired you to create the look?
I wanted to create a look that was beautiful, warm, and bright like a summers day with the overall look being a definite nod toward 70’s summer festivals. I took my colour palette inspiration from a summer Dahlia and the styling is a modern 70s flip.
Which ASP products did you use?
To create my look, I used the ASP Ultra Lifting 9 Level System Blonde Lightener, Kitoko Protein Additive and ASP Vitaplex. I also used the ASP Infiniti 10.2 to tone before using the ASP Colour Dynamics Coral and Colour Dynamics Mango Smoothie.
I used ASP Mode Smoothie and ASP Mode Styling Heat Shield while styling and ASP Mode Waxworks, ASP Mode Styling Wonder Dust and ASP Mode Air Loader to finish.
Can you talk us through your technique?
I started with a full head of bleach babylights to create a bright and even canvas for my vivid placement. At the backwash I pre-toned my babylights with 10.2, so that my blonde was clean and bright. After rinsing I applied Dynamics Coral and Dynamics Mango Smoothie in alternate sections using a balayage technique on damp hair. I concentrated the Mango Smoothie around the face to create a face frame. Once developed I rinsed and cut into a modern 70’s shag with curtain bangs and styled it into large waves flipped back from the face with volume and texture.
What do you love about this look?
I love how this look is both modern and retro. I love that it is vivid enough to really catch your eye but it’s still soft and beautiful. I love that it incorporates a more natural blonde root so the colour will grow out and soften in a wearable and pretty way. I’m always trying to create hair that will last and grow out beautifully for my clients so they can maintain it easily at home.
Anything else that will help inspire & educate other professionals?
Don’t be afraid to incorporate some vivids into your day-to-day work, it doesn’t have to be crazy to be beautiful, just one or two shades can create something really eye catching and it doesn’t always have to be a global colour, small placement areas can also have a big impact. Choosing warm shades such as yellows, peaches and pinks will always fade beautifully to a warm blonde and can be easily interchangeable at each appointment. Let your clients know that it’s totally possible to have fun summer festival hair without long term commitment if they want!
