I have naturally light brown hair and I dyed it a dark blonde but it went much lighter. I need it done before an event next week. I know it will be damaging but it needs to be done. Should I just use a lighter dye?

If you are wanting to go lighter than the shade you are now then I wouldn't use a lighter colour as it might not lift it. As a rule, we always say in the hair world "tint doesn't lift tint". I would be more incline to add highlights to the colour to lift some pieces and break up block of the colour.
